Explain language support in local business listings

Describe spoken languages, translated information and interpreter arrangements accurately so customers understand what support is available before contacting a business.

Language support can influence how comfortably a customer makes an enquiry or attends an appointment. A useful listing explains the support actually available, including any advance arrangement required. It should not suggest that a translated webpage guarantees that every member of staff can provide the same spoken-language assistance.

01 / 05Distinguish spoken and written support

Record which languages can be used for conversation and which are available only in written materials. A translated menu or automated website translation does not establish that staff can handle a detailed enquiry in that language. Use the profile's attributes carefully and add a concise explanation where the distinction matters to booking or receiving the service.

02 / 05Confirm availability with the team

Ask the location manager when relevant staff are normally present and whether an appointment is needed. Avoid publishing individual employees' personal details as the way to obtain language support. If availability changes with shifts, tell customers to confirm before visiting. A general business contact route keeps the arrangement manageable when staff move or take leave.

03 / 05Use clear wording for interpretation

Where interpretation can be arranged, explain that it is a separate process and identify the next step. Do not describe occasional informal assistance as a guaranteed professional service. Keep any requirements on a maintained information page or discuss them privately. The directory needs enough detail to guide an enquiry without making promises about a provider or arrangement that has not been confirmed.

04 / 05Review translations as business information

Translated descriptions should preserve service limitations, booking requirements and location details. Check names, addresses and contact numbers carefully rather than assuming automated translation leaves them untouched. Have a suitable reviewer check important wording where possible. Updating only the main-language profile can leave another version advertising services or visiting arrangements that the business no longer offers.

05 / 05Make unsupported enquiries manageable

Explain what happens if a customer contacts the business in a language the team cannot support. A short, understandable routing message is better than a misleading language badge. Revisit the profile when staffing or interpretation arrangements change. Keep the list of languages relevant to the current operation instead of retaining every language ever spoken by a former employee.
